Damned Innocence; A Tribute to Girls and Ladies from the Red Light District

“Damned Innocence”

Innocence so sweet,
Innocence so kind;
Innocence when tainted,
Reverses the mind.

Innocence:
A secure shelter from those morbid thoughts;
Joy and comfort
Of a child untaught.

Innocence abandoned,
Opens a new door,
Where the hopeless has gone
To be a bitch or a whore.

To ghettos and brothels,
Alone, in groups or by pair,
Along sidewalks or motels,
No penance can repair.

Yet certain am I,
They’re not damned in God’s eyes.
There’s still light in the sky,
And sanctuary before they die.

Note:

Now don't get me wrong. I am writing this poem not because I am one of them or that I've entirely lost my innocence (God forbid!). This poem is merely an act of sympathy to those girls and ladies many of us look down on because of the nature of their work. Perhaps in time I'll write a treatise as to why the people from the red light district shouldn't be ostracized so much. We are all sinners anyway (I mean it in a nice, friendly way). And there are whores even amongst the most prim and proper of people. Whores exist even in the most sacred of places. Rather than condemning them, I guess we just have to help them out of their wretched existence (if they consider it to be so) and help them be the best they can be.

Oh, it's rather cramped here. Just wait for my treatise 'ala Anne Rice or Paulo Coehlo' sometime in the near future. Haha. Ciao!
