Wish List

NOVELS

I want to know how Kant ever had the guts to make a fool out of himself by conversing with one of the ugliest animals on this planet. I'd also like to know if the Platypus ever kissed him in the end? LMAO. Kant's ideas are attractive to me because they match with my own self-imposed principles. Kids, get to know the father of post-modernism who spouted the following thoughts: How can you confirm the existence of one's soul? How can you measure reason? If you cannot prove the existence of such, much less quantify, why the fuss? What's wrong with the world, momma?

Before you accuse me of perverted inclinations, I'd just like to clarify that I am more interested in the psychology behind S&M rather than the act itself. Marquis de Sade has a unique way of making me understand this rather abnormal propensity clearer than any other psychologist (not even the master of perversion, Freud). Except for Google snippets, I haven't fully read any of his works yet. Too expensive! I almost dropped a hard-bound copy of Sade's novel at Fully Booked. I'd be better off buying 20 Victoria Holts from Cebu Thrift Shop. Although dusty and somewhat worn out, but hey, if I can still read... what's the deal? Let's check the net for some complete pirated version, shall we? :P

Ah, what would I give to be a hapless high school girl once again? Nothing. Romance novels are classic. They know no age. And Julie Garwood is one of the world's most beloved romance novelists. With her ability to spin a mesmerizing story that incorporates themes on love and mystery, trust and betrayal, and pride and honor, avid readers of romance (such as me) would never get bored reading her novels over and over again. Whether set with a modern, 19th century or medieval backdrop, anything written by Julie Garwood is simply memorable.

Checklist of Julie Garwood books I've read so far:

The Bride
The Wedding
Honor's Splendor
Prince Charming
The Prize
For the Roses Series
-One Pink Rose
-Come the Spring

Give me a complete set of all the novels under Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles and I'll give you my soul. :P This series accurately sums up all of my dark thoughts. Death, the gradation of evil, gray areas between good and bad, right and wrong, love and hate - encounter darkness like you've never had in this compelling and thought-provoking series. Move over, Twilight! Move over, diamond-coated vampires! First-rate vampires - Louis de Pointe du Lac, Lestat de Lioncourt and Armand - will burn you to cinders.

Checklist of The Vampire Chronicles and other Rice books I've read thus far:
The Vampire Chronicles
-Interview with the Vampire
-The Tale of the Body Thief
-The Vampire Armand
-The Vampire Lestat
-Merrick (bits and pieces)
The Violin
The Mummy

Epic, epic series! Sad to say, I've only read but fragments of the first book and excerpts from the up-and-coming sixth installment, Winds of Winter. When I was still working for a Korean firm, I mentally noted to myself that I'd buy all the books in the series (there were still 4 at that time). Months and years went by and all other things blurred my memory. Thanks to my brother, who brought a pirated copy of the HBO series, I pretty much got a glimpse of the story. HBO did a great job. The small screen adaptation is fantastic - amazing cinematography, dialogue, acting, costumes and direction. When I saw the first 10 episodes though, it was impossible not to notice how several characters had loose morals and not a single one, except perhaps for Ned Stark and Bran, had a truly noble cause. Everyone was either a whore, a murderer, a sadist weakling, a greedy son-of-a-bitch, a woman on the verge of insanity or an arrogant knight. Even Daenerys, one of the supposed protagonists of the story, had a goal that wasn't really honorable. The methods she used were just as morally questionable. But that aside, and especially the dialogue, Game of Thrones, be it book or television series, is superb. It's full of adventure, fantasy, drama, mystery, conspiracy and witty diatribes. Just my cup of tea.

MANGAS

Hell will break loose if I ever get all Death Note volumes!!! I love this manga so freaking much. Mangas involving death and mystery are just so awesome. But what makes this manga even more awesome is its dark, realistic and creatively fleshed out characters. The cat-and-mouse plot is one of the best there is in the mystery shounen manga genre. L FTW!

A beautiful and captivating manga that wrenches your heart from start to end. From the plot to the art, Monster is everything a mystery manga should be. I gave up a day of sleep just to finish reading all of its chapters. You can never find a serial killer as gorgeous or as twisted as Johann Liebert. He makes Light Yagami of Death Note seem nothing more but a poor shadow. Monster had me wishing a web of suspense would also wrap around me - which regrettably never did. The next-door-neighbor-but-serial-killer-in-disguise has always been one of my favorite fantasies, but our neighbors are too moronic to fit the bill. :P

Before anyone freaks out, let me just lay it out in the open: I am a BL fan.  Of course I'm picky with the story and the mangaka, but truth be told, most BL mangas have out-of-this-world plots. Some shoujo mangas would pale in comparison. Or has the typical male-female relationship simply lost its appeal to me? But if you read Yamano Ayane's Target in the Finder Series, you'd ditch that simple doki-doki shoujo you're currently reading. It's... intense, in more ways than one. ;) I also like the art. Yamano-sensei draws such amazing facial expressions, eye-popping physique, stylish clothes and (cough) hot love scenes (wah!). She draws action scenes much better than the shounen mangakas I usually revere. And Finder's plot is really riveting; it has a certain depth and it's far from shallow. There are many other BL mangas of the same caliber so I suggest you widen your horizons before hurling criticisms at this genre (or at same-sex romance in general). Oh, come on, people! We're well past the LGBT era into the era of maturity, understanding and acceptance. :D

PATRICK THE STARFISH

OMG! I got the above picture from a Chinese website and guess what they called the Patrick stuffed toys?
DOLL TOY PIG STAR FOAMS! OMG!!!
I love Patrick the Starfish. He's absolutely adorable - and stupid. I want a room full of stuffed Patricks. Haha!

Why I wish? Ask Kurt Cobain!

I really haven't had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I'd rather tell a story about somebody else.
